If you read my about me page then you know my history of spending a lot of money, but never really implementing anything.
Due to my personal experience I highly recommend saving your cash when you are first starting out, yes you do need some training so you know what you’re doing but you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg on that training – I’ll recommend some training a little further down.
One of the things that held me back for years was my fear of making a website. The thought of doing anything related to website design, setup, maintenance and content creation scared the bajeezies out of me.
I tried to get around it and avoid it but I never had any success. There are just some things you need in order to be successful at internet marketing and a website is one of them.
To summarize the two critical things you need are solid training and a website.
Training
You can’t do internet marketing without knowing what to do. How do you know what to do unless someone teaches you and shows you?
There are a lot of internet marketing training courses on the internet. Some simply consist of a ebook that costs $27. Others consist of video series, phone calls, webinars and can run you anywhere from $97 – ???(the sky’s the limit). I’ve personally bought a copywriting course that cost $2997.
Was it worth that much?
Not to me especially since I didn’t apply the material. Which actually brings up a good point:
No matter what training you get the value is not in the training itself, the value is you applying what you learn.
All of the courses out there range in quality. Some are current and up to date, others haven’t been updated for years and shouldn’t be sold anymore. You should NEVER, EVER buy out to date internet marketing training. Things change way too fast.
It’s very hard to distinguish good products from bad products.
Websites:
When I got into internet marketing the first course I bought said that a website was a nice thing to have, but not really required. As a result, I spent a good number of years trying to squeak by without a website. Looking back I wish I had started out with creating a website at the very beginning.
I believe that would have put me in the mindset of actually creating and providing value to people instead of just trying to do the bare minimum just to make a buck.
To be fair I did buy some courses that had videos of walking you through the process of setting up a website. However, at that point I felt too overwhelmed to do anything. As a result, I would do nothing for months. Then I would finally attempt to do it and feel pretty foolish for not doing it sooner because it would turn out to be relatively simple. All I needed to do was just take baby step after baby step.
My Recommendation – Wealthy Affiliate
At Wealthy Affiliate the training is constantly up dated. The owners are constantly putting out new training and other members are creating training as well. The result is you are constantly getting fresh, up to date training.
Another aspect of Wealthy Affiliate that makes them so different is that they will actually give you a free account to test drive their training platform. They will walk you through the process of setting up your first website, creating content for it, and marketing it.
You also get to see how helpful other members of WA are. The best part to me is they don’t put a time limit on your starter membership. You can have a starter membership account for as long as you want.
As you are going through the training if you have problems or are unsure of something there are a couple of ways to ask questions.
You have your own personal blog within WA that you can post to. This is my favorite way to ask a question. It’s kind of surprising how fast of a response you can get.
They also have a live chat where you can ask questions. Other members are really helpful at helping new members. It’s also not uncommon to see Kyle(one of the co-owners of Wealthy Affiliate) answering questions in live chat.
