Common Pitfalls For New Affiliate Marketers

When you are first getting started at affiliate marketing is very easy to fall victim to some common pitfalls.  Here are a few common ones below.

Too Much Reading, Not Enough Action

One of the most common pitfalls for new affiliate marketers is to think that you have to know and learn everything before you build your website. It’s easy to get caught up in this type of thinking. The best way to learn affiliate marketing is to simply apply what you read. One of the best pieces of advice I’ve come across is that for every one hour you spend reading/studying affiliate marketing, spend one hour implementing those techniques.

Buying Many Courses, Implementing None

Another common pitfall for new affiliate marketers is getting caught in a cycle of buying every single program that is presented to you.  It’s very easy to get caught up in this.

You want to learn about affiliate marketing. You go online do some research and come across a site that offers great tips to get started. They have an offer to give you a free “getting started course” if you join their email list. You figure “why not? What do I have to lose?” So you join their email list and they give you a lot of valuable information. So far, so good.

After that they email you with a “must have” system that’s “newest and greatest thing” that will have you making more money in one month in one month than the average person makes in a year. As if that isn’t great enough, they claim that you can make this time of money in less than a month!

Since this person already gave you great information you trust them, and you end up buying the course. A few days later you might get another email, this time they are promoting a different product that is a “must have”. You can see how knowing this information will help you build your affiliate marketing business, so you buy it.

Every so often you get a new product promotion. As you buy each new product you get added to a new email list. Each new email list that you are added to promote what they think are the best products. You keep on buying. Each new product fits into the vision that you have for your affiliate marketing business. Each new product is going to give you the edge over other people.

A few months later, if you’re lucky, you realize that you have nothing to show for your “efforts”. All you really have done is spend hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of dollars(like me) on internet marketing courses. You don’t even have a website .

A lot of these courses you might not even have gone through before you moved onto buying the next course. Instead you placed them on the “backburner”. They’re sitting in a folder on your desktop and you’ll come back to them once you have time, but you never have time since you’re always chasing the “magic bullet” that will make you easy money online.

What To Do

If you can avoid the two pitfalls I’ve mentioned above then you are already ahead of the game.  Basically what you want to do is find a solid affiliate marketing training course.  Once you found one that you like and is suitable to you stick with it.  Don’t go purchasing other courses.  Implement it.  You’ll learn far more by implementing than you will just by buying courses.

Things may not go to plan.  Be willing to persist and work through problems as they arise.  If you can’t figure how to do something, be proactive and ask for help or search for solutions.  Don’t just call it quits for the day, every time you do that you delay your success.

The best suggestion I can make is do something every day.  Your efforts in affiliate marketing are cumulative.  Over time a simple action such as making a blog post every day leads to massive results.  If you make one blog post a day in a year you will have 365 pieces of content on your website.  That is a lot of content.

Now imagine the opposite thing.  If you go around buying course after course what will you have in one year?  Most likely an empty checking account, and MAYBE a blog with 20 posts.

One of the hardest things to do, for me at least, is to focus and take consistent action.  I believe if you can do those two things you are setting yourself up for success.
