Update With Me

So I really haven’t been too active with internet marketing lately.  Last August I got out of the military and decided to utilize the Post 9/11 GI Bill to go to college, so I’ve been mainly focused on school.  I decided to study business, a BBA in Entrepreneurship to be exact.  To be totally honest, I don’t think it’s necessary to have a degree to run a business or be a successful business owner for that matter.

I figure since the GI Bill was one of the benefits available to me as a result of military service, I might as well take advantage of it and I might even gain something useful from it.  I admit I have picked up a few useful things here and there.  In the financial and managerial accounting classes I have learned things that will help me better communicate with my accountant due to the fact that I actually know a little bit about what they are talking about lol.

With all that being said, I am still a little disappointed with my lack of effort in internet marketing.  It seems like I make time for everything else except internet marketing and that needs to change because ultimately I want to be able to support myself solely through internet marketing without having to work another job.  In order for me to achieve that goal I need to put forth a substantial amount of effort.

What am I going to do differently?

I am going to start posting more on all my blogs.  I had been attending an online entrepreneur meetup group locally.  After talking with several people it became apparent that the people who were getting a lot of organic traffic from the search engines had a lot of content. One person I talked to received about 5,000 visitors a month from the search engines and he had 800 pieces of content on his website.  Another had an insane amount of content.  I can’t remember how much but he said he updated his site multiple times a day everyday, and he was getting over 15,000 visitors/month.

While those numbers aren’t super huge, they are still bigger than what a lot of people get.  As a result, I think there is something to be said for having lots of original content on your site that you post regularly to.

I also decided to let the majority of my domain names expired.  I had been renewing the registration on about 15-20 domain names each year for the past few years.  I thought they were awesome domain names and wanted to keep them because I wanted to build out sites on all of them.  However, I finally realized that I most likely never would.  I decided to let them expire and not worry about it.  I decided to keep 4 websites that I have put the most effort into and these are the ones I’m going to focus on from now on.  I will resist the temptation to try to buy any new domain names.

I also helped a friend start his own blog today.  I helped him register a domain name through Godaddy and setup hosting through Hostgator.  We then installed WordPress on his hosting using Fantastico de lux.  He was super excited to have completed that step and I’m super excited as well.

Over the next couple of weeks and months I am going to teach him how to do internet marketing.  Although, I’m not any where near successful at internet marketing I do know a thing or to just due to being around it for a couple of years.  My biggest obstacle has been not taking action.  I find that anytime I talk with other people interested in internet marketing it reignites my passion and helps me take action.  I think helping him out will help me take more consistent action.

We plan on meeting regularly to have work sessions where we both work on our websites together.  Its kind of like having an accountability partner.  If we both meet together then we are both going to want to work on our websites.  I’m super excited to see the progress we will make in a couple of months.

I’d love to hear from you, leave me a comment below.  🙂
